When we first introduced Tectus to our customers here a dozen years ago, the questions we got were more existential like, “What is this?”
Soss was the only thing anyone knew, but everyone quickly grokked the many advantages of 3D-adjustability and welcomed the alien Tectus into their process, their projects and products . Since then, Tectus has become almost a household name in the high-end, modern design conversation. So, then, what is this about a new adjustable concealed hinge?
In Europe, and especially in Germany, concealed hinges you see in the wild are either Tectus or BaSys. They have both been manufacturing high-performance hinges for a long time and introduced their concealed hinge lines at around the same time. In the European door hardware landscape each has its fans and each continues to innovate and improve its offering. For Index-d, it was natural to bring these widely-respected PIVOTA hinges to the market here in order to provide our clients with some of the unique features and solutions that the PIVOTA line offers. I’ll go over some of these below.

There are many innovations in the BaSys line but this is one that will turn heads in the door shops. Across some of the Pivota line models you will get starkly different load capacities and use exactly the same milling. This variation is due to the difference in the amount of steel in the hinge body.

AGS makes a best-in-class frameless door system. The solid extruded aluminum profiles make for a hearty opening that can take Tectus or BaSys hinges to hang doors up to 440lbs. However, because of the rabbet required when using the inswing TUS profile, if you want to use a standard 1-3/4” thick door, the Basys Pivota DX 58 3D hinge is the only one that will get you up to a 180lbs.
